#1 The Whole Point of Colossians – College Ave Church
I ended up visiting this church last year in search of connecting with a fellow minister from my alma mater. I was so grateful to be introduced to a thriving, youthful church here in San Diego, with a gifted Pastor, Chris Hilken. I’ve been watching his sermons here and there ever since, and thought this one in particular was so satisfying because the message aligns almost exactly with the UN-ASSOCIATED core mission centered on identity in Christ. I urge you to check out this sermon and reflect on the prompts he gives throughout the lesson to really examine different areas of growth you may pursue in your identity journey.
#2 Gospel Jazz Playlist – un-associated
Back in May, we hosted our very first Gospel Jazz Night, and it was such an amazing night. Dee, our Live Event Director, curated a beautiful playlist for the event that includes a mixture of gospel, jazz, gospel-jazz, and soul tracks from a wide variety of artists. Definitely check the playlist out and feel free to follow us on Spotify while you do! Just remember – if you hear something new – know we put you on (jk).
#3 Discerning Idolatry in Desire – John Piper
This article is over 15 years old and still so convicting. If you have been examining ways you might be idolizing people or things in your life over God, this is a great article that breaks down 12 ways to discern where you might be in that. It also gives a little bit of a sneak peek to some cool things UA has coming down the pipeline :).
#4 Christine Caine on with the Perrys
2-words “Gethsemane Moments”. Amazing discussion on the need for sanctification. I didn’t really know who Christine Caine was before this episode, but wow, the Lord used her to speak on sanctification in a way that I hadn’t fully considered. I think one point that stood out to me most was the idea that the sanctification process is indeed lifelong, and will always come with challenges that crush us. No amount of money or fame can circumvent the pain that comes from the sanctification process if one is genuinely seeking to live for the Lord. A must-watch.
#5 Enabled by God and God Along – Danielle Clayton
Last on the list is an article from our very own Editor-in-Chief, Danielle Clayton. This article is a humble reminder to every Believer that we all need a Savior. We’ve all had role models in the faith that we might think are indestructible, but the reality is we all face challenges that are bigger than us – sewed according to our size. With that, we can all be pushed to our limits and liable to break into pieces if not for the grace of God. I love how this piece levels the Christian playing field and calls us to lean on God no matter where we are in our spiritual maturity.
Check these pieces out and let us know what you think!
