To commemorate Mother’s Day, each Morning Devotional for the month of May will highlight
an important lesson of faith learned from a mother or a mother-like figure. Today, I would like to conclude and reflect on the story of a mother in Scripture whose courage and trust in God speaks
volumes—Moses’ mother.
There’s something powerful about a mother’s faith, especially when it comes to letting go and
trusting God with what she loves most. When I think of Moses’ mother, I think of the kind of
faith that sees beyond fear. She lived during a time when the life of every Hebrew baby boy was
at risk, yet her belief in God’s protection outweighed her fear of man’s law.
She did something many of us would struggle to do—she let go. Not recklessly, but faithfully.
She placed her baby boy in a basket and released him into the river. She didn’t have a guarantee,
but she had trust. And that trust in God made room for the miraculous. Her act of surrender led
not only to Moses’ safety, but to her being able to nurse and bond with him again.
That’s a faith move.
Sometimes, the most loving thing a mother can do is release. Release the control. Release the
fear. Release the outcome. Because faith says, “God, I trust You more than I trust myself.”
Moses’ mother teaches us that when we give our children over to God, we are not giving up—we
are giving them the best covering they could possibly have. We are giving them over to the
This speaks to me deeply, because I know there are mothers, aunties, mentors, and caretakers
reading this who have had to make hard decisions for the sake of the ones they love. Whether it’s
sending a child off to college, making a tough choice in discipline, or praying through tears at
night, you’re not alone. God sees every act of faith and every moment of surrender.
The beauty of this story is not only in Moses’ survival, but in God’s provision—how He honored
that mother’s faith and gave her back what she released. Because of her faith, her trust in God and her belief in His promises, her son becomes a mighty vessel for the Lord.
If you’re in a season of letting go or trusting God for someone you love, I encourage you to
follow Moses’ mother’s example. Trust that what you release to God is never lost. He is able to
protect, restore, and multiply everything you place in His hands.
